Typical work

The everyday steel that keeps builds moving.

The steel we cut, drill and deliver every week through APG Beam — and you can price most of it straight from the Beam Shop.

01
CLEAR OPENINGUniversal beamPadstone

RSJs & universal beams for knock-throughs

Take out a load-bearing wall and open up the ground floor. We size the beam from your engineer's calcs, cut it to length and deliver it ready to sit on padstones.

  • Universal beam / RSJ
  • Bears on padstones
  • Cut to length
02
FULL-WIDTH OPENINGColumnGoalpost beamBaseplate

Goalpost frames for rear extensions

Two columns and a beam carry the back of the house where a full-width extension opens up. Supplied in bolt-together pieces, so they go through the house.

  • Columns + beam
  • Bolted connections
  • Baseplates to foundation
03
SPAN BETWEEN PARTY WALLSSteel floor beamNew floor joists

Loft conversion steels

New floor beams span between the party walls to carry the loft floor and dormer — so nothing leans on the old ceiling joists below.

  • Floor & trimmer beams
  • Bears on party walls
  • Cleats for joist fixing
04
ColumnBaseplate & HD boltsBearing plate

Columns, baseplates & padstone plates

Posts where a wall can't take the load, fixed down through drilled baseplates. Steel bearing plates spread the load where a padstone won't fit.

  • UC & SHS columns
  • Drilled baseplates
  • Bearing plates
05
OPENINGBottom plateUniversal beamOuter leaf

Bay window & shopfront beams

Wide openings with a plate welded under the beam to carry the outer brick skin — for bays, shopfronts and big bi-fold openings.

  • Beam + welded plate
  • Carries the outer leaf
  • Wide openings
06
Flange cover plateWeb splice plateCNC-drilled, bolted

Bolted splices & connections

Long beams split into lengths you can actually carry in, then bolted back together on site. Every hole is CNC-drilled, so it lines up first time.

  • Web & flange plates
  • Grade 8.8 bolts
  • CNC-drilled holes

Choose your scale

Two ways to build with APG.

The same workshop, the same 3D models, the same people — set up two ways. Pick the one that matches the size of your job.

Everyday steel

APG Beam

One beam or a dozen. On site in days, not weeks.

The steel that keeps a build moving — knock-throughs, extensions, loft conversions and shopfronts. Send us the drawings; we model every piece, make it and deliver it labelled, primed and ready to lift into place.

How APG Beam works

1

Send your drawings

Your structural engineer's drawings and calcs, or a sketch and a photo. We'll tell you straight away what it needs.

2

We model it

Every beam and connection is built in 3D and checked. You sign off a clear drawing before any steel is cut.

3

We make it

CNC cutting and drilling, certified welding, then primed or painted to spec in our own workshop.

4

We drop it on site

Delivered in a slot you can plan labour around, and lifted into position by our 100 ft Hiab.

Right first time

Every piece is checked against the model before it leaves the workshop — no site bodges, no second deliveries.

Labelled to fit

Each member is marked to its exact position on your drawing, so your team knows where it goes the moment it lands.

On the day we say

A confirmed delivery slot means your crew and your hire kit are never standing around waiting for steel.

APG Frame

Whole structures. One accountable team.

For contractors and developers building bigger — portal frames, warehouses, commercial frames, mezzanines and fire escapes. We survey, draw, fabricate and erect the complete frame as a single package, with one team answerable for all of it.

How APG Frame works

1

Engage early

Bring us in at design stage. We value-engineer connections and member sizes to take cost and weight out of the frame.

2

Model & coordinate

A full BIM model is coordinated with the architect and services teams, and every clash is cleared before fabrication.

3

Fabricate in sequence

Steel is made in the order it goes up, so each delivery matches the crane's next lift — no laydown chaos on site.

4

Erect & hand over

Our own erection crews build the frame, then hand over with an as-built model and a complete quality file.

One name to call

A single project manager owns your frame from first estimate to final bolt — no passing between departments.

A programme you can see

Every piece is tracked against the model, and you get a weekly report of what's designed, made, delivered and erected.

No surprises on site

Clashes, lifts and sequences are resolved in the model first, so site time is spent building — not problem-solving.

Behind both

The digital backbone.

A single lintel or a full warehouse frame — every job runs through the same 3D model, from first sketch to final bolt.

1

3D structural model

Every member, connection and bolt is modelled in 3D — one accurate digital source for the whole team to design and check against.

2

Clash detection

The steel model is checked against architectural and services drawings to catch clashes on screen, long before fabrication starts.

3

Fabrication-ready data

The model generates cutting, drilling and welding data straight for our workshop machinery — no manual re-drawing, no transcription errors.

4

Simulated installation

Erection sequence and lifting plans are simulated in the model first, so crews arrive on site with a proven, safe plan of work.

Why a computer-designed steel building pays off

Fewer errors on site

Clashes and design issues are caught on screen, not discovered mid-installation.

Faster fabrication

Model data feeds our cutting and drilling machinery directly, cutting manual drafting time.

Accurate costs

Automatic material take-offs and bills of materials keep quotes and budgets reliable.

Better collaboration

Architects, engineers and fabricators all work from the same live 3D model.

Safer installation

Lifting and sequencing plans are proven in simulation before crews reach site.

What we do

Everything under one roof.

Design & Engineering

  • Structural design, including fire and wind-load resistance
  • 3D BIM modelling for clash-free, fabrication-ready structures
  • Connection design and value engineering

02

Fabrication

  • CNC cutting and drilling of structural sections
  • Certified welding and assembly
  • Weld inspection: dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic
  • Priming, painting and protective coatings

03

Installation & Logistics
